JG spring plungers—also called ball plungers or detent plungers—are spring-loaded components used to create a detent, indexing point, or light holding force in fixtures and mechanical assemblies (application dependent). They’re commonly used for positioning adjustable parts, providing “click-stop” engagement, and maintaining repeatable alignment in guards, covers, and modular workholding setups. Because the feel and retention depend on force and tip style, spring plungers are typically selected by specification rather than by general description.

Jergens Spring Plungers, unlike conventional spring plungers, are machined in one piece. The spring is assembled from the top so that there is no need for a set screw. Our Spring Plungers do not have a set screw that can loosen or separate from the plunger body. The advantage is no lost springs and no need for “easy-out” tools. When adjusting Solid Drive, you can be sure the plunger body is turning and not a set screw.
